What is the B.C. Family Bonus program?

How do I apply for the B.C. Family Bonus and B.C. Earned Income Benefit?
How do I apply for the Canada Child Tax Benefit?

Answers:

What is the B.C. Family Bonus program?

The B.C. Family Bonus and the B.C. Earned Income Benefit are tax-free monthly payments designed to help low- and modest-income working families living in British Columbia with the cost of raising their children.

These benefits are combined with the Canada Child Tax Benefit (CCTB) into a single monthly payment.

Under the B.C. Earned Income Benefit, families whose earned income is more than $3,750 may be entitled to payments. The maximum monthly benefit is dependent on the number of eligible children and the family's net income.

For more information on determining your total monthly payment (combined federal and provincial amount), please see the Canada Revenue Agency's Child and Family Benefits Online Calculator, or call 1-800-387-1193.

How do I apply for the B.C. Family Bonus and B.C. Earned Income Benefit?

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) administers these programs for the Province of British Columbia.

There is no need to apply separately. The CRA will use the information from your Canada Child Tax Benefit (CCTB) application to determine your eligibility.

If you are eligible, the amount of any payments will be calculated automatically based on information from the tax returns you and your spouse or common-law partner file.

How do I apply for the Canada Child Tax Benefit?

To apply for the CCTB, complete and send Form RC66, Canada Child Tax Benefit Application to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

In addition to filing the completed application form, you may also have to complete and attach a Status in Canada/Statement of Income form (RC66SCH).

Please send your completed forms to:

Note:

To be eligible to start receiving the CCTB, both you and your spouse or common-law partner must file income tax returns. If either of you has not filed a return, you need to file it before the CRA can send you any payments.

If you need to get an application form or return, please go to our Forms page, the CRA website, or contact your CRA tax services office. You will find the number listed under "Canada Revenue Agency" in the Government of Canada section of your telephone book.
